Before any payoff method can work, you need to see the whole picture. Listing every debt in one place is the calmest, most useful first step you can take.
Why one list helps
Scattered statements make debt feel bigger and vaguer than it is. One list turns it into a set of numbers you can plan around.
What to write down for each debt
- Who you owe (lender or card)
- Current balance
- Interest rate (APR)
- Minimum payment and how often it is due

What to do next
Once everything is listed, compare the snowball and avalanche methods in our free payoff calculator, or take the Face My Debts challenge to keep your total saved in your dashboard.

If things are urgent right now
If you have missed rent, mortgage, energy, tax or court-ordered payments, are facing eviction or enforcement action, cannot afford food, or you are having thoughts of harming yourself, please speak to a person — not a calculator. Free, confidential and qualified debt advice exists in most countries, and using it does not harm your credit file.
